What I like about Melanie's work is first of the full experience she gives in her installations combined with her films. Next to that I like the subjects she chooses, on intimacy, boundaries, the body and gender. And last but not least the humor she uses to show these things with.
What I like about the works of Donna Huanca is also the full experience she gives, sounds, smells, images, and the performances. Next to that the combination of the bodies with the inanimate (?) objects and the interaction that then awakes.
What I like about Pixy Liao's work is her questioning the standards she experiences. Next to that I really like how she shows this in these simple and extremely accurate pictures. So the simplicity of it is very nice I think, and I don't use this word in a negative way of the word simple. I think keeping things simple (maybe minimalistic) is very hard to do.
What I like about Tino Sehgal's work is the total experience that he creates with his (sculptural) performances. And the simplicity that it comes in. The use of language and the interactiveness it can ask of you. I think it creates an immediate reaction in yourself.
What I like about Victoria Sin's work is how they use their voice, performance and moving images. The things they tell sound very personal, but are in that way very broad, I think a lot of people can recognise themselves in it.
HIGHER by Michele Rizzo
Philosopher Julia Kristeva once said: “ As to be human embraced political, sexual, religious, familiar identity, we are undergoing a time of major identity crises. We need to find a language that transcends the human in order to over come such crises and awake a new Renaissance. This language can be dance”.
In this performance, while trying to transfer the magical essence of the club in the theatrical/representational context of the black box, and trusting in dance as the practice that compensate for the fact that we can never be each other, we attempt in becoming one.
